Newcastle United will not be moving for Birmingham City midfielder Barry Ferguson.
The Journal says Toon’s age policy has scuppered Ferguson’s hopes of joining them.
The former Scotland captain is looking for a new club after Birmingham City were relegated from the Premier League last season.
He had been attracted by the prospect of playing for the top-flight’s most northerly club, and asked his agent to inquire as to whether Newcastle would be interested. But the question met with a swift response due to the midfielder’s age.
Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City are also interested in the Rangers icon.
